There are cautions to eating raw sprouts especially for people with compromised immune systems or pregnant women and the elderly. Like any fresh produce raw or lightly cooked, sprouts can carry foodborne illness, e. Coli, listeria, and salmonella. if they are contaminated. Always wash your hands before handling sprouts, and rinse them thoroughly. Wash your hands again after handling them. If you grow them at home and have a healthy immune system take standard precautions, you can eat them raw or add sprouts at the end of your recipe's cooking time. Grow your own from disinfected seeds or make sure that the sprouts are cooked long enough to kill any possible bacteria.
